The European project was never about unity for the sake of unity.
It’s about what Europe stands for in the world and in this historical moment, and what it must stand for in the future: democracy, freedom, rule of law, and the inalienable right of every individual to be respected, honoured and cherished as a human being.
This is what our flag stands for. These are the values that we must carry and defend, wherever we go in the world.
